It seems Naomi Watts has a thing for animals that wreak havoc, and remakes of classic cinema. Not to take anything away from her resume (she can currently be seen in Eastern Promises), but after starring in Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong, she has signed on to Universal's remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic thriller, The Birds.
Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, The Mask of Zorro, Goldeneye) is set to direct, and a host of producers including Michael Bay and Peter Guber are involved.
More after the jump!
Stiles White and Juliet Snowden (who's only writing credits listed on IMDB are The Need and Boogeyman) wrote a version of the script that, while still being developed, is a reimagining of the short story by Daphne du Maurier, which was ultimately the inspiration for Hitchcock's 1963 film.
What that tells me is that we shouldn't expect a shot-for-shot, or possibly even remotely similar, remake. That may be good or bad, but either way it's a daunting task to take on a master like Hitchcock.
