Was It Really That Bad: The Force Unleashed

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out and about in theaters around the globe. And while we are all excited to see it shattering Box Office records left and right, there is a part of us that regrets the loss of the Expanded Universe (now called the Legendary Universe).
There were many losses when Disney took over the rights to the saga, including many stellar games. Star Wars: 1313 may be getting a second chance at life, but many others were dumped into the recycling bin of history, never to be seen again. Among those was a little series called The Force Unleashed. While it is in no way on par with KOTOR or The Old Republic, TFU explored an interesting storyline and a unique character set between the events of Episode III and Episode IV.
The first Force Unleashed received middling reviews, with many calling it a repetitive if pretty action adventure game. The sequel was heaped with criticism due to a lackluster story and even more rinse-and-repeat gameplay. But was it all really so bad? Weren’t there parts of that universe that spoke to you? Wasn’t it cool to see a rogue Force user go all out on hapless stormtroopers?
So today, we’re going to take a look at some elements of The Force Unleashed that we feel make it a prime candidate for revival. You may not agree with all of it (or any of it), but you can’t deny that the game had a style worth revisiting.
