Uncharted 4 Review

It Looks Pretty…Oh So Pretty

We’ll address this point first to get it out of the way. Uncharted is one of the best-looking games ever made. That’s a pretty high bar to hit in today’s UHD/4K gaming market, but it’s pretty much par for the course with this series. Ever since the first title on PS3, Naughty Dog’s landmark title has been the leading edge of graphical development. From water effects to snow to sand (and now mud), Uncharted has show us just how powerful the Playstation can be as a processing powerhouse.

Characters grimace and snarl and panic, all with incredibly realistic facial expressions. And this isn’t during cutscenes, but rather IN COMBAT. The level of graphical fidelity is startling at first, and serves the game rather than the other way around. This ultra-realistic approach to appearance allows the game to transport the player to a stylized version of our world. Little details sell the reality, and immerse you in a way that was simply impossible even ten years ago.

The locations are downright gorgeous, the modeling is impeccable, and everything feels so close to perfect that you rarely notice a glitch or pop-in.

I have never been one to sell a game based on graphics alone, as I think gameplay and the fun-factor trump all. But seriously people, if this is how games look now, we don’t need a PS5. We’ve got what we need.
