Top 5 Thing We Want From Next Gen Games

1) Next-Gen Franchise
I love playing new games with old characters. It is great to see them make the leap from generation to generation, adding their personal charm to new mechanics. But I demand more than that. I want the next-generation of gaming franchises.
Halo is now entering it’s 14th year as a series, and nothing has really changed for old Spartan 117. He still uses mostly the same tools to dish out a smattering of death and destruction, all in the name of being the most decorated Space Marine / Robot in history. Sure, let 343 Studios keep sucking up our money, but let’s explore new options.
Do we really need another Uncharted? Seriously, I love Naughty Dog and all they do, but didn’t we learn from chapter 3 that more Drake is not always better?
I think it is time for a new Killer App. We gamers are happy to see Solid Snake kick ass, or Lara Croft grow into a heroine we can be proud of, but we want to meet someone new.
I know this is asking the impossible. “Hey developers, come up with a character that reaches across gender, societal and generational boundaries.”
While we’re dreaming, how about a lead character who isn’t white? I should mention, full disclosure, that I am as white as a polar bear buried in a mound of sugar during a blizzard, but I’m pretty tired of just playing as a grizzled caucasian male in every game ever. How about an Indian? There are a billion of them on Earth.
Maybe a female character shaped like regular human people? Who has more character development than enduring insufferable loss and anguish?
Basically, all I really want is this:
A new non-conforming protagonist armed with an assortment of real-but-not-cliche weapons, taking on a realistic and sympathetic villain (while not killing everything in sight, as that is nuts balls), where every action creates a believable reaction by NPCs. Oh, and I don’t want to even remember I’m playing a game by the end of this.
Simple, right?
