1) The Sims
The Sims, that has to be the solution. You don’t have any objectives to meet, there are no time limits restricting play, and you can be as good or evil as you want. It is simply a sandbox in which you can play to your heart’s content. This has to be it.
Most people like The Sims because it opens up new methods of storytelling in games. You can have a family tree stretching generations into the past, each branch measuring in hours and hours of gameplay. Other people enjoy living out a virtual life much different than their own, and they populate the world with versions of their family and friends.
Then there are those who choose to reap sadistic vengeance on the Sim population for crimes they never committed.
My lady wasn’t sold on the idea of The Sims at first, but she changed her mind after witnessing a most unfortunate turn of Fate. My Sim had left a pot of pasta boiling on the stove while he answered the door, and came back to find a raging inferno in his kitchen. As he was an excitable lad, he neglected to call the fire department until he was already neck deep in furious flames. His death was inevtable and somewhat hilarious.
Minutes later, I was explaining to my fiance that is was unfair to build a massive swimming pool only to drown her party guests.
There is something both therapeutic and masochistic about The Sims. It is the virtual equivalent of a fish tank. You can sit and watch for hours, never really interacting with the mindless creatures within. Or you can create a room with no doors and set everything on fire. Girls love that shit.
So there you have it, folks. Of all the games in the world, the best to hook your boo on the medium is The Sims.
Or, if you think you have a better answer to this age-old riddle, please post it in the comments below. I’m going to try and liberate a group of teenagers from a torture chamber.
