3)  Resident Evil Outbreak Trailer

I promise we’ll get to the music in a minute, but let’s first stop and check out the story happening in this cover art. That is some serious shit. I remember when Resident Evil: Outbreak first launched, on the heels of the modestly successful RE3. The idea of an online, cooperative zombie survival game blew me away. For those of you who don’t know me too well, I’m a bit of an undead-o-phile.

But this was an MMO on the PS2, which is to say that it was terrible.

In a game where you need split-second decisions and constant teamwork, it was a little bit of a hurdle to have ZERO microphone support. The only way to talk was with canned phrases for each character, and none were even close to “JESUS, I’m being attacked by a zombie!”

But the trailer? That was a work of genius. Telling the story behind the outbreak, showing us the moments leading up to the downfall of Raccoon City, that was amazing. And the score hit every emotional beat perfectly.

Every time I see this trailer, I lament the movies that could have been. Oh well. I guess we’ll just have to stick with the Mila Jovovich version.

I’m sorry, I seem to have lost my train of thought
