The Morning Roundup: Trek, T4 Posters, Extended Trek Trailer, Sequel News

Written by: Big Ross, CC2K Staff Writer

ImageThis morning we have news of sequels to Iron Man and Sex and the City, a new extended trailer with a little surprise for Star Trek, new movie posters and more!

There are more details out about the planned comic book prequel mini-series planned for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek.  The oddest tidbit is this statement, courtesy of Roberto Orci: "Star Trek: Countdown' lays the groundwork for what happens in the movie. It's our way of passing the baton from the 'Next Generation' characters and their movies to the new film."

Huh?  This is a reboot of the original Star Trek canon, why would the Star Trek: TNG cast of characters be remotely involved?

SJP (that's Sarah Jessica Parker for you non Sex and the City fans) says that not only is there a potential storyline lined up for a sequel, but a start date as well, which would facilitate a May 2010 release.  As to the story, SJP said "Motherhood doesn't seem as if that's going to be a choice she'll make. It feels a little bit manipulative to toss that into the mix because she seems so pointed in a different direction."

Right.  Because having 3 out of the 4 break up with the partners they settled on at the end of the series, and having 2 of those 3 get back together with said partners as the central storyline isn't manipulative at all.  Of course, the more important question is, why in the name of Crom do i know this?

We've got some Iron Man 2 details, specifically regarding the Terrence Howard/Don Cheadle casting contorversy.  Writer Justin Theroux insists that the character of Jim Rhodes was in no way reduced or diminished during the writing process, as was reported in Entertainment Weekly as a response to Howard's rejection of a diminished salary offer.  Also, there's an open casting call for a for supporting characters in the film, click HERE to check 'em out.

Well gamers, Gearbox President Randy Pitchford is denying that the in-development Aliens: Colonial Marines has been cancelled.

Also dear gamers, in a bit of news that hardly qualifies as such, Bungie has announced that their Halo 3 expansion formerly known as Halo 3: Recon will henceforth be officially known as Halo 3: ODST.  ODST is an acronym for Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, one of which will be the main character of the game.

There's a very cool flash poster for Terminator: Salvation.  I wish I could have uploaded it directly, but you can view it HERE.

Here's a new character poster from Star Trek featuring Eric Bana as the villainous Nero:
