Written by: Big Ross, CC2K Staff Writer

ImageThis morning we've got the box office report (you can guess which movie came out on top, can't you?), a new pic and trailer for the new Terminator sequel starring Christian Bale, and more!

Topping this morning’s news if there was any doubt that The Dark Knight was going to be a summer blockbuster, this news will dispel that doubtTDK broke the single-day sales record with $66.4 million, beating the record of $59.8 million previously held by Spider-Man 3TDK has also broken the weekend ticket sales record by bringing in $155.34 million in its opening weekend, again beating a record that was held by Spider-Man 3 with $151.1 million.

Here's the top three from the past weekend:

1.  The Dark Knight      $155,340,000

2.  Mamma Mia!          $27,605,000

3.  Hancock                 $14,000,000

Not exactly a bastion of truth, it seems FOX News can even get entertainment news right.  While they reported that Tom Cruise has been replaced by Will Smith in the upcoming CIA-thriller Edwin A. Salt, Moviehole reports that’s not true, as all involved are “waiting on a rewrite of the script from Kurt Wimmer, which is due in a few weeks. Will Smith has not been approached to star. Cruise is the only actor who has been approached.”

Djimon Hounsou (Amistad, Gladiator) is set to produce and star in a film exploring the origins of Thulsa Doom, according to the trades.  It will reportedly show how he wasn't always the evil sorcerer of Conan the Barbarian.  Where is the audience for this movie?

Speaking of a movie with no audience, rumors are spreading that Tom Cruise has been approached to reprise his Top Gun role for a sequel.  Supposedly a script has already been written that has Maverick at the Top Gun school as an instructor, having to deal with a new cocky, young, female pilot.

In an interview Watchmen director Zack Snyder had an interesting thing to say about how the film might be received by creator Alan Moore:

“We all want to please Alan, and I think that’s a noble thing to want to do. There’s nothing wrong to get the guy who frickin’ created the thing to not hate it, I don’t think that’s an outrageous thing to want,” said Snyder. “I think the approach is to assume that the movie is better, and that’s a mistake. I would never make any assumptions.”

There’s a new pic of Christian Bale as John Conner from the upcoming Terminator Salvation, check it out:
