The Morning Roundup: Shuffled release dates, Kick Ass report, We3 director, Wrestler Poster

Written by: Mike Leader, Special to CC2K

ImageThis morning we've got news about tweaked release schedules, plus a new project from Brad Pitt. We also hear about a new musical movie and news involving the latest comics-to-screen adaptations, including We3 and Kick-Ass. It's time to evolve – it's the morning roundup!

– James Gray (We Own The Night, Two Lovers) has been announced as the director of the upcoming adventure romp The Lost City of Z. The film will star Brad Pitt, and has been adapted from a non-fiction book by David Grann (who has written for the New Yorker, so it must be good, I'm sure) about a British spy dedicating his life to exploring the Amazon. Pitt is also a producer, through his Plan B production company. –

– Universal Pictures have shuffled around some of their 2009 flicks. The Wolfman has been pushed back to November, whereas Fast and Furious is now coming out in June. Equally, Ridley Scott's Nottingham is now filed under '2010 TBA'. Read more about it here.

– Hoping to catch the mainstream success of the High School Musical series and Mamma Mia, New Line have snapped up the rights for 80s rock musical Rock of Ages.

– The big screen adaptation of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's spectacular 'household pets turned super-powered mechas' graphic novel We3 will be directed by John Stevenson (Kung-Fu Panda). The film will be produced by Don Murphy (Transformers) from a script penned by Morrison.

– In other comic book movie news, AICN has a huge geek-splurge from the set of Mark Millar's Kick Ass. Check it out – although I do think there is something wrong with learning about a comic book story from the coverage of the film adaptation, before the limited series is even finished! In related news, Kick Ass #5 has been pushed back until January.

– Jo Blo has a peek at Sony's 2009 line up.

– To finish with, we've got the sweet new poster for The Wrestler (check out a higher res version at Empire)

– And a new trailer for Dragonball:
