The Morning Roundup: Bond, Star Trek, Watchmen, Aaron Eckhart and Trailerpalooza

Written by: Phoebe Raven, CC2K Staff Writer

Image This morning we try to please everyone by offering the B.O. report, news about video games, Star Trek, Watchmen, Aaron Eckhart, new TV and a trailerpalooza never before seen!

Since every American reading this roundup probably went out over the weekend to see this movie, it should come as no surprise when I tell you that after its domination in Europe Quantum of Solace also conquered the American box office. And not only did it blow to the top, it is also the best opening for a Bond movie ever and that is saying something after 50 years of Bond.
And overseas it continued its record by grossing more than double of what High School Musical 3, Madagascar 2, Saw V and Changeling made combined. Leave it to James Bond to boggle your mind.
Spots 2 and 3 on the list of the US box office went to Madagascar 2 and Role Models. Did anyone care about that last tidbit of info?

Well, you are going to care about this next one:

A brand new Star Trek trailer in HD has hit the net! It is much nicer than the previous one. Check it out at the bottom of the page! EDIT Tuesday 6 p.m. EST: Apparently Paramount is making everybody take down the new HD trailer. The only site you can still watch it on is the official site for the movie: http://www.startrekmovie.com/.

What, you don't care about Star Trek??? Well, then you probably don't care either that over at Slashfilm they have a first look at the Watchmen video game following on the heels of the awesome new trailer we brought you last week. See one image below and for the rest head on over here.

Let's compromise, here's news for lovers and haters of video games alike. Apparently video game sales are down (haters rejoice!). But only compared to last year (lovers rejoice!). All in all, the video game market grew by 18% in October. Not the impressive 73% of last year, but hey, we are in recession and games still rake in the dough. Escapism is a powerful force!

Okay, a peace offering: news about Danny Boyle. (If it looks like I have been pimping out the word about him because I have mentioned him in the previous two roundups as well, it is just a coincidence! He's simply very busy these days.)
Danny Boyle has launched a new independent animation studio named Treat. He has always said he would be interested to test himself out in all kinds of genres and musical and animation were still missing from his resumé. So now he is out to change that.
You can watch a viral animation to promote his new venture over at Slashfilm.

Let's move on to something everyone can enjoy: pre-production heaven/hell.

Aaron Eckhart will add his glory to Jonathan Liebesmann's Battle: Los Angeles. It's a sci-fi about a Marine platoon's battle against aliens in the streets of L.A. Hey, Eckhart pulled off that ridiculous symmetrical face-split in The Dark Knight, I am sure he can handle CGI aliens!

Oh, and speaking of special effects, the Robotech big screen adventure has finally found someone to pen it. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are the (un)lucky ones. They ran Smallville for seven seasons. Does that calm us in the least?

"Twilight Fever" is going round, and riding the wave of success are its young actors and actresses. Cam Gigandet and Jena Malone have scored themselves parts in the indie drama Five Star Day. It's a coming of age kinda thing, the Twilight crowd will like it, I am sure.

Alright, time for my favorite part of these things: news from the LaLa Land of TV!

Image USA is picking up the eighth and final season of Monk. Catch the eccentric detective while you can, he's the new Columbo.
Way more exciting to me though is that USA also renewed Burn Notice. The best show you didn't catch this summer or last summer. Your mistake, it's the new Miami Vice.

And while USA is doing great things, NBC has had a certifiably stupid idea. They are launching a new show called Superstar Dancers of the World. Dance professionals from all over the world will compete against each other in this new reality format. Catching the late train, are we NBC?

Marvel also wants in on TV action, and so they are giving us 26 half-hour animated episodes of Thor in 2010. But in 2009 they are already giving us two new cartoons of Wolverine and Iron Man. If only I was a ten-year-old boy, I would be delighted!

Finally: Trailerpalooza! Now that's to everybody's liking.
