The Morning Roundup: Bond Rules, Beyonce’s Booty as Wonder Woman, Kidman and Theron a Couple

Written by: Phoebe Raven, CC2K Staff Writer

Image This morning we have the B.O. report from overseas and the U.S., tons of comic adaptation news including a director for Captain America and glorious casting for Black Panther and Wonder Woman, rumors to boggle your mind and the two awesomest movies in production right now.

I'll try to make this short and sweet for once.

The Box Office is up first, as usual: James Bond is still reigning in Europe. Quantum of Solace took in more than triple of what HSM3, Madagascar 2 and Body of Lies made combined! Now that is what I call "blowing away the competition"!
However, Q of S may have no such record run in the U.S., because it will be up against the teenage phenomenon Twilight, which has already sold out some showings two weeks before it even opens in theaters. It's crazy what teenage girls can do.

This weekend at the U.S. box office cutesy animals again dominated over humans (remember Beverly Hills Chihuahua a few weeks ago?). This time it was the exotic four-leggers of Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa. Paul Rudd and Stiffler (aka Sean W. Scott) weren't good enough as Role Models and only made it to No. 2.
HSM3 fittingly came in 3rd.

More of the usual, there is news about comic book adaptations.

Image Looks like the Captain America movie has found its director in Joe Johnston. Anyone know whether he has the street cred to make this anything more than a failure?

Also, Djimon Hounsou has been cast as Marvel's Black Panther. Come on, people, where's the excitement for yet another comic book movie?!

Alright, but I bet you can get excited over this one: Beyoncé Knowles wants to be Wonder Woman. Now there's a badonkadonk you WANNA see in that starry, striped leotard!

On the heels of last week's trailer for Danny Boyle's new film Slumdog Millionaire comes speculation and rumors that Boyle himself may be interested in directing 28 Months Later, the third installment in the 28 series he started himself a few years back. Head on over to Slashfilm for the full scoop.

Meanwhile AICN has reports of a rumor that none other than Ennio Morricone may be scoring Tarantino's Ingluriooos Bestards, or however nut brain Quentin wants it spelled these days. Considering Tarants doesn't believe in original scores, I think it unlikely, but then again, stranger things have happened.

And to round this off, two of the most exciting tidbits from pre-production heaven:
Image
1. Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron will play a married couple on screen in a movie titled The Danish Girl. It is based on the true love story of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener. Kidman will play a post-op transexual Einar in the movie, while Theron will mime Greta. Now I am not usually a fan of either of these ice queens, but the project in itself I am excited about. New territory and nothing to do with comics!

2. HBO will air a documentary about Barack Obama (they paid a seven figure sum for it), which will be produced by Edward Norton. He approached Obama all the way back in 2006 and asked if his production company could be allowed to chronicle his political activities. And look where it has led! Cameras were with Obama all the way till his victory on Nov 4th. I can't wait to see the footage from behind the scenes. HBO will air the whole thing in 2009.

There, how's that for a to-the-point roundup from our resident blabbermouth?

Celebrate by watching these trailers!
