The Little Comic Strip that Could: “Lio” Gets Live-Action Feature

Do you know Lio?  I wasn't introduced until today, but I like what I'm seeing.  Lio is a comic strip created by Mark Tatulli.  It uses no dialogue, only images to tell its stories.  Those stories feature a curious young boy.  He has what you might consider an atypical imagination and a macabre host of friends.  This strip's humor has a darker hue to it, but Tatulli must be doing something right because Lio's edgy style has seen it rise in success and popularity since it was launched in 2006.

Variety is reporting that Lio is getting a treatment only received (as far as I can recall) by Dennis the Menace and Garfield: a live-action feature film.  Producer David Kirschner (An American Tale, Child's Play, Curious George – talk about an eclectic resume!) made the deal with Universal Press Syndicate to get the adaptation green-lit.

Those other two comic strip-movies I mentioned tended toward the "miserable failure" end of the spectrum.  My question is, how is a Lio movie going to work?  What will the plot be?  Is there going to be dialogue?  While it could pose an interesting challenge, would audiences sit through a feature film without dialogue?  We'll have to wait and see.
