The Amazing Spider-Man: The Lizard Revealed!

Written by: Gary M. Kenny, CC2K Comics Editor

The Internet is a great place for spoilers. Just these past years we’ve seen leaked versions of Thor, Captain America, and Spider-Man’s new NBA basketball inspired jump suit. So it should come to no surprise that the villain of the new Sony film: The Amazing Spider-Man was just leaked. CC2K brings you in all his glory: THE LIZARD.

Spidermedia.ru a Russian comic/movie website leaked the image just a few days ago. But before they did the company PEZ actually showed us the Lizard’s new face via Pez dispenser form. That’s the kind of dispenser i’d want shelling out my sugary goodness (not really). He kind of looks bleh to me. However I do like how they kept the actor’s face involved. I was kind of hoping to be scared when I saw the lizard.

I don’t know about you but i’m a little disappointed. I really had my heart set on a Jurassic Park looking Lizard ( especially how the revamped Lizard design from Brand New Day Spider-Man). Yes, i’ll give this movie a shot and hopefully this villain ends up looking amazing on the big screen but come on, this guy looks like a Goomba from Super Mario Brothers the movie.

Where they going for a more traditional Lizard? Yes you can see his humanoid form, the color and shape of his head is very Jack Kirby Spider-Man. This would probably have been what past Spider-Man franchise director Sam Raimi would have done. I thought Marc Webb would go a bit more of a 90s route with his design. Especially after I saw the 1st trailer i thought, Wow, this is the way I would have liked to have seen the first trilogy made. Being a child of the 80’s, Macfarlene Spider-Man was my after school comic of choice, the 90’s were a great time for comic book artists. Maybe when i’m twenty years older the comic movies will be more 90’s inspired.

A side by side showing of the 1960’s version of the Lizard can really show what the production is going for. Click the right image for a large view.
