Sex Week: Interviews With Porn Stars Nica Noelle and Chanel Preston

Written by: Beth Woodward, CC2K Books Editor

Next up, Chanel Preston.  From her bio:

Growing up in Alaska, Chanel went through normal phases of exploration, like giggly adolescent and rebellious teenager.  The one thing that always remained constant was her love for performing.  Whether it was reciting lines of Shakespeare in the community theater, or awing her family with piano recitals of Rachmaninoff’s concertos, Chanel fed off the energy of the crowd.  Dancing, painting and playing the trumpet were additional ways Chanel experienced the performance high.  Now the sexy star captures the same feeling starring in adult movies.

For Chanel, boredom equals death, so she quickly developed a “try anything once” motto in life.  This daring attitude led her to join the wrestling team in high school, despite the coach’s resentment towards having a girl on the team.  Raised with the concept of gender equality, Chanel received her first lesson in discrimination on the gym mats.  The further she was pushed to fail, the more Chanel desired to succeed—an attribute still strong within her today.

Impulsiveness runs through Chanel’s veins and guides the majority of her actions, from men, to moving to Hawaii, to occasionally jumping out of planes.  The self-proclaimed exhibitionist’s decision to enter into adult entertainment was carefully thought out though.  Within seconds of performing her first strip tease on stage, Chanel knew she made the right decision.  Chanel is capable of doing anything, but she chose adult entertainment.  Forcing people to reevaluate their stereotypes of the industry is one of the many rewards Chanel discovered, in addition to all the hot sex.

Chanel Preston entered the world of adult entertainment in 2010 and has already filmed movies for top production studios, Hustler, Vivid, and Wicked, as well as landed upcoming covers for Hot Video, Club, Cheri, and High Society.  Chanel was selected for the prestigious position of Trophy Girl for the 2010 XRCO and F.A.M.E. award shows.  In a short time, Chanel positioned herself as one of the most visible new adult film stars in the industry, demonstrated by her 2010 NightMoves award for Best New Starlet.  In addition to her regular blog for XCritic.com, Chanel became the first guest blogger for AdultDVDEmpire.com.  With increasing exposure, Chanel is well on her way to becoming one of the demanded sex symbols in the world.

Look for Chanel Preston’s acclaimed scenes in X-Play’s Not MASH XXX; Jules Jordan Video’s Fashion Fucks; Hustler’s This Ain’t Avatar XXX; Wicked Pictures’ Speed, Hooked, and 4  Some; and more.

Q: You started performing at an early age, in things like community theater productions and piano recitals.  What was it that drew you to performing?

A: I never really knew before why I liked performing when I was younger, but now I know. It’s because it’s my way of creating. Anytime someone creates something, they want people to see it and love it. I could care less if someone stops me and says how pretty I am. I would rather receive a compliment about an amazing performance because that’s what I personally created. It’s art, and performing is my medium.

Q: You grew up in Alaska, but as an adult you moved to Hawaii.  That’s quite a difference!  What prompted you to make such a drastic change?

A: My best friend moved to Hawaii for school right out of high school. She always wanted me to come with her. A year later I ended up leaving a guy I was with for three years and thought it was time for a change, so I headed over to Honolulu.

Q: Your bio lists skydiving as one of your hobbies.  I’ve always wanted to try that!  What is it like?

A: I thought I would be terrified to go skydiving, but it was so strange. Once I got up there, I was more excited than anything else. When I made the leap, it was amazing! It’s the only time I have ever been able to scream as loud as I possibly could, so I sure as hell did. Right when I landed I wanted to go again.

Q: You’re playing Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League XXX movie.  What was it like to tackle such a well-known character?  Are there any other superheroes that appeal to you as a performer?

A: Growing up the only comics I really read were Archie.  I had boxes full of them.  It was kind of an obsession.  I don’t know why superheroes didn’t attract me when I was younger, especially since I’m all about fantasy now.  In regards to playing Wonder Woman, I kind of took my cue from the TV show, but it was hard since she doesn’t have a ton of personality.  I guess the challenge comes into showing her sexual side.  Wonder Woman runs around in her underwear, but never got to engage in anything kinky.  What’s the point of having a lasso if you don’t get to have some fun with it?  The power that appeals to me right now is definitely flying.  It gets expensive to take a plane from Hawaii to Los Angeles and back every month to shoot.  Flying would be so much easier.

Q: You’re a fairly recent addition to adult entertainment, having entered the industry last year.  How did you get into adult film?

A: I started out dancing as a way to express my sexual side. As I traveled all over the Untied States, I met people who introduced me to movies. I really was interested in doing it, seeing it as a challenge and a way to experience different forms of performing.

Q: Even though you are a recent addition to the industry, you seem to be everywhere!  You’ve received several nominations and awards (including the 2010 NightMoves award for Best New Starlet, 2010 CAVR Award for Starlet of the Year, 2010 XCritic Award for Best New Starlet, and a 2011 AVN Award nomination for Best New Starlet).  In addition, you blog on XCritic.com and AdultDVDEmpire.com, and you’re currently launching your own website.  What are your long-term goals?  Do you have other projects/interests you’d like to tackle?

A: Although I love performing, I definitely plan on positioning myself to be even more creative. I love expressing myself, and I always have all kinds of ideas running through my head. Directing or writing is definitely in my future. I am just taking it one day at a time to see what options come my way. If I’m interested, I’ll take it, and if not, I’ll move on.  Either way, I know I’ll have an amazing career because I love what I am doing.

Q: My impression is that adult film tends to be a very male-dominated industry.  (And if I’m wrong, please tell me!)  What is it like working in that kind of environment?

A: There are definitely more men than women who own companies and direct in the industry, but that is changing very fast and in many ways. More women are beginning to move out of from in front of the camera to behind it, directing and contributing creatively. Studios are making porn, which targets women and couples, something that didn’t happen much before. Everyone has their own experience in porn, but I haven’t had any negative experiences working in a male dominated environment because I am a strong woman. They recognize that and don’t put me down or take advantage of me.  You have to stick with your beliefs and surround yourself with people you trust. I am anxious for more of positive changes to happen and hope to be a part of them.

Q: What have been some of your most memorable experiences working in the industry?

A: I would have to say all the awards and recognitions that I have received. I knew I would do well when I got into the industry, but I definitely didn’t expect all of this to happen so quickly. I had an amazing year, and now that the introduction period is over, I know this coming year I can really branch out and further build my brand and visibility.
