Amy Ryan and Greg Kinnear are set to join Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass for an upcoming Iraq war thriller loosely based on the best-selling nonfiction book, Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone.
Greengrass and writer Brian Helgeland (Man on Fire, Mystic River) have teamed to write a fictional thriller set inside the "Green Zone" – a safe haven for U.S. troops in Iraq.
Damon is set to star as a military officer searching for weapons of mass destruction. Ryan has signed on as a news journalist and foreign correspondent for the New York Times.
No word yet on what role Kinnear has been cast in, though it may be that of a senior CIA officer working with Damon’s character.
Shooting is set to begin today in Spain.
While it seems that one current trend in Hollywood is to make Iraqi War-related films (Lions for Lambs, The Kingdom, Stop Loss, Rendition), given the success Damon and Greengrass had with crafting The Bourne Ultimatum, I’m probably more likely to see this movie than some of the others.
Just one geek’s opinion.
