HBO has hired Bull Durham mastermind Ron Shelton to direct an adaptation of the book Barry Bonds: A Baseball Player Who Injected Steroids Directly Into His Pituitary Gland So He Could Hit A Fuckload Of Home-Runs.
Just kidding. The book’s called Game of Shadows: Barry Bonds, BALCO and the Steroids Scandal That Rocked Professional Sports. Shelton will adapt the book with John Norville (his Tin Cup writing partner) as soon as the writer’s strike ends.
More after the jump!
I’m a huge Bull Durham fan, and I’m sorry to admit that I’ve never seen any of Shelton’s other movies. Yes, that includes Cobb, Tin Cup and White Men Can’t Jump.
I also don’t know anything about this book, but the boys at Variety say it’s about Bonds making a Faustian bargain to become a baseball legend. That sounds like great material to me.
