Paul Verhoeven, the Dutch mastermind behind such classics as RoboCop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers, has been tasked to bring a sequel to a hit remake to the screen: The Thomas Crown Affair 2.
Verhoeven takes over for director John McTiernan, who’s been in a lot of legal trouble lately. Pierce Brosnan will return for the sequel, but Rene Russo won’t. A new female lead character is as yet uncast.
So far, Verhoeven has been mum on the number of exposed vaginas or exploding heads he plans to include in this production.
But besides that, this news makes me wonder how Verhoeven would have fared taking over another franchise from McTiernan – Die Hard. Surely we can all agree that a Verhoeven-directed Die Hard 2 would have been superior to the Renny Harlin directed one?
If you offer me an answer in the forums, I’ll promise to stop calling you Shirley.
