Next Gen, Same Problems

The First Few Games are Just Cashing In
Have you seen the lineup for the PS4? Aside from the “real” versions of Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, there is a noticeable absence of killer apps. Most of what you see on the shelves is just cannon-fodder, stuff to make sure the company doesn’t launch a game less product.
Don’t believe me? Look at some of the best examples from other consoles.
NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
We all remember the original NES with rose-colored glasses. While it did launch the careers of such greats as Mario and Link, it also began with a shuddering lack of real titles. I mean, who can forget:
A game about…climbing ice. And apparently being a dick to any polar cool enough to wear sunglasses. And a speedo.
Mario is VERY upset that he couldn’t wear his regular suspenders
Developers were bending over backwards to get their products on this new and wonderful machine, but that doesn’t always translate to great games. And the old generations aren’t the only ones that suffered.
XBOX
Sure, Microsoft stepped out the gate with Halo, but let’s not forget other legendary titles.
You’re right, Atari. What people really want is a game about surfing
Because games based on movies always turn out well
And far be it from me to leave the latest generation off the list.
PLAYSTATION 3
Sure, the PS3 eventually gave us amazing titles and wonderful experiences, but its launch was anything but smooth. Even the inclusion of some key franchises like Madden and Call of Duty failed to impress, as one barely improved from last year and the other was a PC port.
A game where you fight in World War II? And they said there’s nothing new under the sun
Another Tony Hawk game? Can I do a Breakneck 360-to-boneless? Still don’t care!
