WHAT ABOUT PORTAL?
“Half-Life 3 will, in some ways, also be Portal 3. We don’t want to give too much away, but the stories of Chell and Gordon will tie together in a most impressive way.”
When asked about the timeline differences–Chell’s latest adventure is roughly 50,000 years ahead of Gordon–Gabe had this to say.
“This is a series with interdimensional travel and portals. We’ve worked out a method that is scientifically sound, while also feeling justified by the gamers. You are going to love how we’ve pulled this off.”
Gameplay will merge between the two franchises, and Gabe hinted at the incredible physics puzzles available when you combine portals with gravity guns.
Characters from both sides of the house will make appearances, though just how wide their roles will be has not been revealed. Ellen McLain has been confirmed to revive the voice of GLaDOS, the homicidal robot queen. There is also rumor of J.K. Simmons reprising Cave Johnson, though maybe only in more recordings (which we would gladly take).
The conference started to wind to a close, and then the wind down stopped. The lights dimmed even further, and the techno picked up. Gabe’s voice was replaced by another, only this one have more gravitas. The cadence was a little off, as though the person speaking had only recently grasped how we humans communicate. After a moment, we recognized Michael Shapiro’s perfect intonation of the G-Man.
“It seems a shame that only PC gamers be allowed to experience the Half-Life series. All the effort in the world would go to waste…if not for one man. So wake up…J.J. Abrams. Wake up and…smell the screenplay.”
