Whip Out a Board Game
Okay, calm down. I know what you’re thinking. How can a board game stack up to a PS4, or XBox One?
Let’s compare them, shall we?
PS4 | XBox One | Board Games | |
Processor | 8-core x85 CPU | 8-core x85 CPU | Your brain, which is 100M MIPS |
GPU | Next-Gen AMD | Next-Gen AMD | Hand painted, so not great |
RAM | 8 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM | No need, |
Storage | 500 GB | 500 GB | Infinite, if you have a notepad |
Optical Drive | Blu-Ray | Blu-Ray | Your eyes |
Price | $499 | $399 | $15-$20 |
Backwards Compatibility | Nope | Nice Try | Always! |
Staying Power | Until the PS5 | <– What they said | We’re still playing checkers, aren’t we? |
Fine, so it’s still a toss-up. But when has a power outage ever cost you a day’s worth of Risk moves? And try to tell me chess is any easier to master than X-COM.
Besides, if you’re stuck at home playing Monopoly, you’re not doing it right. Whip out a Settlers of Catarn or Axis and Allies and you’ll have some real drama on your hands. Instead of watching a slide show of Aunt Maggie’s goiter reduction, why not conquer the galaxy in Empires of the Void?
Or just play Nok Hockey, if you’re a fan of knocking out your goddamn teeth
As a gamer, you often are forced to make tough choices when it comes to time management. Make sure that you’re mindful of that this holiday season.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I’ll see you next week.
