Follow the Creed

Set During the French Revolution = Musketeers

Do you like Leonardo Decaprio? Do you enjoy swordfights and heroism and the most manly of all goatees? Then you must be a fan of The Man in the Iron Mask, also known as one of the best stories based around the Three Musketeers.

For those of you not following this tangent, allow me to regress. The new Assassin’s Creed title will be set during the French Revolution. This was a period of incredible turmoil and upheaval in the struggling nation. The system of a ruling class and the working class broke down in the most literal way, sending many nobles tumbling into the gutter with a few impotant bits missing above the neck.

Sometimes with hilarious results

This was also a time when assassination was the name of the game. Everyone wanted to be the last noble standing, and the results were more sinister than Lena Heady’s plots in Game of Thrones. The rich and well-to-do found themselves at the wrong end of a musket or rapier more often than not, and many family lines were snuffed out in an instant.

How this will all tie in to the main story, we don’t yet know. Perhaps this is yet another prequel, as with Black Flag, but only time will tell.

Or something altogether more bad ass

What we can say, with some gleeful certainty, is that this will be one of the most intriguing adventures to date. The French Revolution created some larger-than-life characters such as La Fayette, Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI to name a few. Will we be helping to storm the Bastile? Or help hide nobles from the enraged populace? Or, as some have surmised, will the assassin’s role be something else altogether?
