Bruce Greenwood has been cast as a deep cut in J.J. Abrams' new Star Trek movie.
Greenwood played JFK in Thirteen Days, and he'll play the President of the United States again in National Treasure: Book of Secrets. In Star Trek, He'll play the first captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, Capt. Christopher Pike.
Pike appeared in the unaired pilot for Star Trek, titled The Cage, which CBS rejected. NBC took a look at the pilot and bought a new pilot, Where No Man Has Gone Before, with a reworked cast, including Wiliam Shatner as a new captain.
But Pike later appeared in the series, where he was recognized as the Enterprise captain immediately before Kirk. He was also confined to a full-body iron-lung wheelchair.
Star Trek is expected to start shooting later this month.
