Man, this one is hard to write. I have never been this torn on a split before. The Svetlana’s are angsty and thrashy, and just are simply not something that I was able to get into. But New Cold War so perfectly fits my taste that I couldn’t let them fall to the way side.

The Svetlanas’ have the first two tracks on the split, Siberia and Father Frost, they are aggressive tracks with grating attacking vocals that can stir up any put into a frenzy of fists and hostility. Their sound is that of a band, a people, a community that is breaking out of a sort of suppression. I really do love that they are a hardcore punk band from Russia that fully embraces their accent.

New Cold War is a Vegas band that plays punk rock with a hook. These two songs, Never Coming Home and Burn are enough to make me want to go out and find a pit and sing along with sweaty strangers. Their music is aggressive, the vocals are gruff, but there are beautiful sections just begging you to sing along.
