814959060-1The promo track I listened to before I received this whole Twisted Around EP was Punk Rock Wedding, Punk Rock Divorce which totally intrigued me with its tongue in cheek attitude and killer punk rock music. I was pretty psyched to hear what the rest of the tracks sounded like.

The classic cut and paste, stark black, white, and green packaging of the EP sets the vibe for the music. Twisted Around is the newest EP by Ex Friends, which is fronted by Plow United’s Joel Tannenbaum. Twisted Around is five tracks of stripped down bar punk rock. The lyrics are light hearted and the music is a damn good time.  Oh, and Tannenbaum’s guttural voice is simply fantastic.

The first two tracks (Model Minority and Punk Rock Wedding, Punk Rock Divorce) are straight forward punk rock and the last three tracks (Rainy Season, Vexed Question, and West Chester Nuclear Winter) have more of a rock and roll sound, yet never lose the gravely punk rock vocals. They are all the type of songs that are best when played in a small venue, where the band and audience can interact and feed off one another’s energy. The most fun track is Model Minority, it has these great guttural vocals and a hook that you cannot help but sing along to.

Ex Friends Twisted Around EP is out now on Yo-Yo Records.
