Album Review :: Backmasker :: Effigies
Written by: Andrea Janov, CC2K Music Editor
Backmasker’s debut Effigies EP is another awesome blasting room product. It balances aggressive fast music and punk vocals with harmony and hooks. The whole EP is melodic with an edge, but make no mistake, there are choruses that will undoubtedly get stuck in your head for days.
There are moments that are raw and gritty and moments that are polished and smooth, each style seamlessly working with the other to create something really unique and powerful. The ending to Black and Grey where the vocals overtake the music, is a matter of fact way to say “I am alive” it cuts right to you. My pick for best track on the album is Leaver, it is a bit more melodic than the rest of the tracks (the music is just as heavy though) and it grabs you. I especially love the layered vocals on the chorus, like always I am a sucker for the sing along elements. Lucky for you guys, you can stream Leaver over at Punknews.org. Best news of all, is that this is Backmasker’s first EP, and I for one am psyched to see what they release next.
Backmasker’s Effigies is out now on Creator-Destructor Records.
