Speaking of survival horror, have you seen this game?

Project Zomboid works for one simple reason: you know going in that you are done for. This is not a game to win, but a battle to last the longest. Each attempt starts the same way. “These are the end times. This is how you died.”

That’s some dark and ominous shit right there.

The graphics aren’t going to tax your PC, but the mechanics will challenge your brain. Do you try to set up a defendable farm and grow crops, or raid the nearby grocery store until the food goes rotten? What is your plan when the power shuts off? Or the water? What will you do if a loved one is bit? What if you meet a stranger?

While this title is still in development, it is definitely worth a look just to see the possibilities.
