 1) Sins of a Solar Empire ($4.99 DLC)

Alright, full disclosure here. This is not a cheap game. Sins of a Solar Empire will run you up to $29.99 on Steam. But it is very worth it.

As a science-fiction aficionado, I am somewhat underwhelmed by the story. There are a few differences in the capabilities and late-game perks of each race, but most players can adopt the same strategy each time. What sets this game apart is the scope.

As the leader of a faction, you must conquer entire galaxies to win. Using thousands of ships, and supporting by powerful titans, you wage war in the starry skies. The graphics are good, and the strategy is fast and furious. If you enjoyed Homeworld, this is a must-have.

The DLC introduces new random events, new artifacts to find, and more challenges to overcome. Crank up the difficulty, carve out a few hours, and get out there. The galaxy needs you.

And if you’re not interested in actually taking part in a grand space-adventure, maybe you’d prefer to read about one. Check out my new book, When the Stars Fade, now available on Amazon.com.
